I just spent ten days at Selina Nosara trying to figure out if I loved it or if it just tricked me into loving it. Spoiler: it’s both, hard.

First impression pulling in: wow, this place is stupid pretty. Jungle everywhere, massive pool with a swim-up bar, hammocks swinging, fairy lights already on at 3 pm. Looks exactly like every influencer photo you’ve ever seen, which should have been my first red flag.

I booked a deluxe private with balcony because I’m weak, came out to 165 USD a night in shoulder season (May 2025). Dorms start around 35-45 USD, shared “loft” rooms around 80-90 if you split. Food and drinks are separate and add up FAST. Breakfast smoothie bowl 12 bucks, cocktails 10-14, decent dinner at the restaurant easily 25-30 with one drink. You can eat way cheaper in town, but good luck dragging yourself away from that pool.

Coworking is legit though. Fast wifi even when the whole place is full, standing desks, phone booths, cold brew on tap. Got more work done in three days than a month back home. They run yoga every morning on the platform, sound healing, cacao ceremonies, whatever wellness buzzword is trending this week. Some of it felt corny but the sunrise vinyasa with ocean roaring in the background actually slaps.

Surf guiding is the part that surprised me most. They have proper coaches, not just random dudes with boards. 85 USD gets you transport, guide, soft-top or hard board, photos, and video review same day. Took me to Playa Pelada secret left I’d never find alone and to Guiones when it was firing overhead. Worth every penny if you’re intermediate and want to level up quick.

Nightlife is exactly what you expect: DJs by the pool Thursday to Sunday, fire shows, everyone dressed like they’re late for a photoshoot. Fun first three nights, then you either lean in or hide in your room with earplugs. Met some absolute legends and some people I hope never to see again, perfect ratio honestly.

The “bohemian” thing gets old quick. Staff in linen outfits calling you “tribe” nonstop, signs about “good vibes only” everywhere, 40-dollar “healing” smoothies with gold flakes. Felt like Disney for digital nomads some days.

Real daily cost if you’re not careful: bed 40 + food/drinks 60-80 + one activity 50 = 150-200 easy. You can do it for 80-100 if you cook breakfast, walk to town for meals, skip the bar. I did neither.

Verdict? If you’re 22-32, want to surf good waves, work a bit, party a bit, and post pretty stories, it’s perfect. If you hate crowds, overpriced avocado toast and people saying “pura vida” every five minutes, stay far away.

I left confused, lighter in the wallet, browner, better at surfing, and with 47 new Instagram followers I’ll never talk to again.

So yeah… probably going back next year. Damn it.

Nosara, you expensive witch.
