We Don’t Like Cookies Either (the tracking kind)
We love the edible ones with salt on top, but the digital ones that follow you around the internet? Not our style. We use the absolute minimum needed to keep the site fast, functional and free, and we never let third-party companies stuff your browser with junk.
What Actually Lands on Your Device
When you visit the site, only a handful of tiny text files are stored. These are strictly necessary cookies that make sure the pages load, the language you chose stays chosen, and the site doesn’t crash when a thousand people hit refresh on a new swell alert. These cannot be turned off, because without them the site simply stops working.
We also place one single first-party analytics cookie that lives entirely on our own server. It counts visits, tells us which device you use, and how long you stay. It never knows your name, your exact location, or what you had for breakfast. No data is shared with Google, Meta, or any advertising network.
If you accept the optional cookie banner, we add one more cookie that remembers your preference so we don’t ask you every single visit. That’s literally it.
No Advertising, No Retargeting, No Creepy Stuff
You will never see ads on the site, therefore we have zero reason to track you across other websites. No Facebook pixel, no Google remarketing, no “you looked at a surf guide so now buy these sandals” nonsense. Once you leave our pages, we forget you exist until you come back.
External Services We Sometimes Load
Embedded YouTube or Vimeo videos (only when you click play) and occasional maps from OpenStreetMap may set their own cookies, but only after you actively interact with them. We don’t preload them and we don’t get any of that data.
Your Control
The cookie banner that appears on your first visit lets you accept only the essentials or everything. You can change your mind anytime via the small floating “cookie settings” button in the bottom corner. Rejecting everything still gives you the full site experience minus the analytics cookie, no dark patterns here.
Data Storage and Deletion
The analytics cookie expires after 12 months of inactivity and is automatically deleted. Essential cookies disappear when you close the browser. You can also wipe them manually in your browser settings anytime, nothing will break.
Updates to This Policy
If we ever add a new feature that requires different cookies, we’ll update this page and show the banner again so you can decide fresh.
